longstone

longstone

this Dartmoor painting is about the double stone row, hut circles, and the big standing stone on Shovel Down - it is 100cmx100cm on canvas, with added canvas collage to represent the individual stones in the double row, with the horizontal lines indicating the climbing contours as one approaches the standing stone. This in turn is represented by the whole image on the right hand side of the painting, echoing the shape of the Longstone. I have used texture to suggest a hut circle, with the entry defined with collage.
I have always played with aerial and distorted perspective to allow me to suggest more than could be seen from any one viewpoint.
