I started hillwalking and rock climbing in my teens, with my best mates, David and Chris - we went off to the Lake District for a whole summer straight after our A-levels. We shared a love of skiffle , folk songs and trad jazz ; Chris played a guitar, David sang quite well, and I did my best. I will always connect being in the hills with this special time in our lives.
This small painting is simply about that time, with the six-string guitar and us three tyros, cool as you like, smoking pipes and pretending to be rock tigers.
